With a private 325-foot beach on Grand Traverse Bay, 12 miles north of town, this eco-friendly inn—a hotel since 1906—is a great spot for a waterfront getaway. Its exterior, of pale yellow with white trim, includes a lovely front porch from which to enjoy the view. Each room has older country-style furniture, two share a bathroom, and there's a two-bedroom suite with its own living room. Morning yoga classes on the property are led by the owner and massages can also be arranged. Rates include breakfast crafted from locally grown organic ingredients.
