Tranquil and picturesque, this upscale Indian River County town has a strong commitment to the environment and culture, and it's also home to eclectic galleries and trendy restaurants. Downtown Vero is centered on the historic district on 14th Avenue, but much of the fun takes place across the Indian River (aka the Intracoastal Waterway) around Orchid Island’s beaches. It was once home to the Dodgers Spring Training base, and there's still a strong affinity for baseball here, and it's kid-friendly, with the former Dodgertown Stadium hosting Little League tournaments, and plenty of parks around. Its western edges still are home to cattlemen and citrus growers.
