Fodor's Expert Review Hotel Meisser
Dorfstr. 42, Guarda, Graubünden, 7545, Switzerland
This picturesque, family-owned hotel, made up of two 17th-century farmhouses, has sgraffiti and flower boxes on the outside, antiques and honey-color pine on the inside, and a luxurious restaurant serving tasty local dishes, with rates including breakfast and dinner. Most of the guest rooms in the main farmhouse are simple and modern, though you can have a splendid carved-pine room if you pay a bit more; to preserve the tranquility, there are no TVs in these rooms. The second renovated farmhouse has a half-dozen suites (with TVs, as well as minibars). The hotel includes a large gym, and guests can book massages and private yoga treatments. The affiliated Meisser Lodge, in a more simple style, and Meisser Romantica, for adults only, offer other accommodation options nearby.
PROS
- unique ambience and style of the renovated farmhouses
- special local cuisine
- very convenient for walking and hiking excursions
CONS
- restaurants and shops are a 20-minute drive
- service can be hit-or-miss
- no elevator
