Castletownbere is one of Ireland's busiest white fish ports and a good place to set down the anchor for touring the magnificent Beara Peninsula. The village is almost burrowed into the foothills of the Caha Mountains and has a market square with a traditional Irish town streetscape that's lined with low lying architecture. It has a reasonable supply of grocery stores, restaurants, inns, and pubs. Look out for the famous McCarthy's Bar that's always freshly painted in the county colors of red and white.
